Written by Jill Eggleton | illustrated by Philip Webb | translated into te reo Māori by Huia Publishers.
Kaua e Whakatoi (No Teasing Elephants) is the seventeenth of twenty books of the Bud-e Reading programme for children from four to seven years old that are now available in te reo Māori. The books encourage children to learn to read and write through fun stories and also develop children’s reading confidence. All of the stories have humour, engaging characters and amusing illustrations that capture children’s interest. The books gradually introduce new words and constructions and build the word bank children need to become independent readers.
This is a fantastic range. Each one includes:
- Prompting questions for the adult (in te reo Māori), to engage the tamaiti in the story. Things like "How do you think the character is feeling? What do you think will happen next?'
- A section at the end of the story for tracing the word
- A 'find-the-word' feature.
We strongly recommend these! For such a small book, they are very engaging. You can also buy the whole set.
